“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh." Friedrich Nietzsche

Physicality and embodiment are wondrous, intrinsic to our (well)being and integral to our ideas and emotions, and equally valid and valuable. Through a fuller respect and wonder for our body we can arrive at a greater understanding of our connection to the natural, physical world that we are part of. Through actively doing we can know and embrace the full, creative and expressive potential of our physicality, of movement and dance, of matter and force, in time and space, alive with power and energy.

performance

Since 1997 I have danced in work choreographed by myself and by other artists, in the US, the Netherlands and Slovenia, most notably for Robin Becker Dance, Sue Bernhard/Danceworks, Human Kinetics, Avodah, Dance Into Light and as an apprentice for the Limón Dance Company.

teaching

I base my teaching approach on modern, Humphrey-Limón and contemporary dance, and gyrotonics-based training. The components are:
  • physical training (the how): conditioning and warm-up, technique
  • choreographic sequences (the what): phrase-work, repertory
  • movement & meaning (the why): choreographic analysis or mentoring, physicalizing the philosophical, performance-presentations
  • Humphrey-Limón: technique, repertory, applied philosophical principles
  • I combine these components in different ways to best meet the needs of the participants.
