“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh." Friedrich Nietzsche

Because I am both a thinker and a dancer, I make an explicit statement about dance, and why dance.
Philosophers have loved dance and/or condemned it.
For me, dance is one of the few things I would claim to know.
Physicality and embodiment are wondrous, intrinsic to our (well)being and integral to our ideas and emotions. Of course thoughts and emotions are important and powerful.
And bodies are intelligent, with sensibility that is valid and valuable. There is deep knowledge to be discovered in dancing, through your own physical efforts and explorations. There is also simple delight.

Sometimes you discover essential truths, and sometimes you simply dwell in the sweet sweat of pure being - space, time, matter, energy and you.

I dance in work choreographed by myself and by other artists, in the US and EU.
I dance as a soloist, and as an ensemble member.
I have danced on beautiful theater stages, in parks, in homes for the elderly, in rock clubs, on streets
and 'in' the East River.
I have been a member of Robin Becker Dance, Sue Bernhard/Danceworks, Human Kinetics, Born Dancing, Avodah, Dance Into Light and an apprentice for the Limón Dance Company.
Dance has taken me all around New York City, to Amsterdam, to Viet Nam, to Washington D.C. to Slovenia and Croatia in bare feet, high heels, ballet slippers and boots - on frozen rivers or hot black top.
It must be love.

Dance Classes based in modern, Humphrey-Limón, contemporary dance, also influenced by ballet and gyrotonics training:
  • physical training (the how): conditioning and warm-up, technique
  • choreographic sequences (the what): phrase-work, repertory
  • Movement & Meaning (the why): choreographic analysis or mentoring, physicalizing the philosophical, performance-presentations

technique, repertory, history, applied philosophical principles

I combine these components in different ways to suit the participants, the place, the time.
